Going southeast, we cross multiple lands to explore. Surrounding us, sandstone formations are emerging, as frozen giants. The most imposing arch, called affectuously ‘Tamezguida cathedral’ by the Tuaregs, is rising in front of us. Its opening is creating a natural frame to the desert landscape beyond. We come through this symbolic cathedral, as if we enter a natural sanctuary where time seems to have stopped. We continue our way and arrive in the middle of white and yellow dunes of Moul n’Aga. This dune is represented by a sandstone castle like a n’Aga (camel), it is the ideal place to observe a spectacular sunset.
Day 4: Stage between Imesnegha and In Tehaq
We head to the surprising site of Imesnegha. This location has mysterious caves revealing hidden treasures. We go up different wadis, come along magnificent dune ridges and vertiginous needles. Our trip goes towards the Tadrart pearl : Tin Merzouga, culminating at over 1300 meters making it one of the highest dunes in Algeria. The climbing of this dune offers a spectacular and panoramic view on the horizon. We never tire admiring the majestic red and orange dunes. The sunset light accentuates the reddish tones, creating a natural picture of striking beauty.
Day 6: Visit to the Tissetteka site and the Tin Abadène canyon
This day is devoted to the discovery of In Djaren’s wadi numerous cave paintings and engravings. This art offers insight of the daily life, culture and beliefs of ancient societies. We leave the magnificent dunes of Tin Merzouga to contemplate the sandstone arches sculpted by wind and time. We continue our journey towards Tissetteka and explore the incredible canyon of Tin Abadène. The canyon visit conducts us narrow paths creating spaces where the sunlight filters, bringing out the richness of the rock colors.
Day 7: Crying cow and return to Djanet
