Ethical and responsible tourism

We plant palm trees for tomorrow

Terres Touareg is engaged in promoting a more responsible tourism by offsetting a part of the CO2 emissions of your trip, planting one palm tree on a forest plot in Djanet.

However the transportations remains the most polluting part of our itinerary journeys, Terres Touareg commits to offset the carbon footprint of the trip transfers.

1 journey booked = 1 planted palm tree

Our palm tree planting program is part of our commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism.

Our ethical and environmental charter

We are immersed in an exceptional place, where it is obvious for us to propose environmental friendly journeys. We inspire ourselves of Tuareg people who live in perfect harmony with their environment minimizing their impact on it.

The creation of an ethical and environmental charter for a trip on Tuareg lands is essential to play down tourism impact on environment, local cultures and communities.

Here are the key elements of our charter:

  • Respect of local cultures: encourage travellers to respect traditions, customs and beliefs of local communities and promote authentic and respectful interactions.
  • Environmental protection: adopt environment friendly practices such as responsible management of natural resources including water and ecological management of personal waste.
  • Biodiversity awareness: awake travellers conscious to biodiversity and the importance to protect and respect the flora and fauna (animal respect, untaking natural souvenirs without Tuareg guide permission).
  • Preservation of archaeological sites: to protect and avoid any damage, it is strictly forbidden to touch, collect or photograph artwork (paintings, engravings, sites) with flashlight on.
  • Commitment: Terres Touareg association is engaged with passion in a series of tasks, projects and missions contributing to Algerian Tuareg communities’ sustainability. Our commitment takes on many crucial areas such as education, health and access to potable water.
  • Local economical development: we contribute to the regional economic development by appealing many talented Tuareg people, who are perfectly aware of their environment and share their passion and their skills with travellers. Moreover, we make local food production our first choice to support local businesses.

By following these principles and adopting a proactive approach favoring responsible tourism, we contribute together to create respectful and enriching trip experiences. We encourage you to practice these engagements all along your journey.

We invite you to share your improving suggestions when you come back by e-mail to contact@terres-touareg.com, so that we can collaborate together creating an ever more environmental friendly trip in the future.
